Toraso Umnaso
We live in
blessed times. Many young men have the opportunity to spend at least the
first year or two (if not more) of their married lives in the bais
hamedrash devoting their full time and energy in these formative years
to Torah and avodah. The Chaburas Kollel Dirshu
d’Beis Medrash Gavoha in Lakewood was started to provide an opportunity
for these individuals to grow to the maximum of their potential. This
all-day kollel now boasts almost two hundred extraordinary young men
who have undertaken a heavy commitment to learning. The kollel day
begins with the distinctive Dirshu seder before
davening. It then continues with a full day of learning, but with a
Dirshu style twist. The learning is done at an impressive pace,
considering that all of Tosafos and many of the major Rishonim
and Achronim are covered. Tests are administered monthly and the
monthly stipend is dependant on strict attendance and successful completion
of the test on that month’s material. Furthermore, the yungerleit are
tested on all of the material studied since the beginning of the masechta,
requiring constant review and unwavering dedication. Despite the rigors of
the program, the participants experience tremendous satisfaction. The
Chaburah has produced outstanding sefarim providing the maarei
mkomos for the key discussions in the Rishonim and Achronim,
along with explanations and chiddushim.
